Pinoy Dream Academy's people behind the scene

I remember a song composed by then Seminarians Mon and Art, both are now priests about the people behind the scene when there are musical presentations and plays performed by seminarians of the UST Central Seminary. The song was composed for our group who was tasked to be propsmen.

Kami ang mga taong,
Behind the scene kung ituring,
Di nakikita sa stage
Di kapansin pansin

Sila sa spotlight
Muka'y lantad sa lahat
Habang kami nasa likod
Hamak walang papuring nalasap...

What viewers see during the telecast of the PDA is very small compared to what really is happening inside. There are more people behind the scene than what we see on TV and these people are doing everything to make the show that we watch a success. Makeup artists, cameramen, production assistants, writers, researchers, utilitymen, security guards and many others work like a small army efficiently to make us viewers happy.

When I was inside to choose a song, what I noticed inside is the camaraderie among them, there's a friendly atmosphere among the staff. Members of the crew could just converse with the stars, and stars play jokes with the crew. Toni Gonzaga for example is a big star but the way she talks to the staff and crew is really surprising as she talks to them with respect like close friends, there is not even a single hint of arrogance in her. I was also told that other hosts are like her and that they are like one big family inside.

Thank you guys, from the guard, Toni, Jean, Marc and all of you inside the academy it was really fun being with you.

One Voice's song is my choice...

Screencapture of the PDA's website.

Both versions are great, and I know Michelle would like either of them for our wedding. The scholars did a great job putting melody to that poem. I would like to give them a token as a sign of my deep gratitude for what they have done but I am still waiting for the approval of the academy. It's not something expensive but I'm sure they would be very happy once they receive it.

Pinoy Dream Academy will give music to the poem

We have been planning our wedding for almost a year now and we have been through a lot of challenges. Feelings were hurt, shouts were exchanged, presence were ignored and small wars were waged between us. Wedding preparation is really draining not only emotionally but also financially. Now that there are fewer kinks to iron I have more time to think how to make this very special occasion memorable for us.

I could have given her a bigger diamond ring but I am not a Ryan Agoncillo; I could have planned for a grander reception but I am not an Arroyo and I could have taken her abroad for the ceremony but I am not a Zobel, Ayala or Bektas. So to make the celebration more meaningful for us, I decided to compose a song for her. A song especially for her and a song that we could call our own. The song/poem that came out however is not entirely mine, I started it and I asked my friends to contribute to it. I have nowhere to go that I asked several of my friends to give me anything that comes to there mind. WHO contributed WHAT I could no longer remember but at last something has come out that looks like a poem :). Not original? I don't care as long as I have a song especially for Michelle.

There's one problem though, nobody would put music into it. A song without the music is but a poem. Lyrics without the melody is but a bunch of words arranged together to form lines and stanzas. Desperation... desperation

Then one day, while watching Pinoy Dream Academy, it dawned to me that these talented boys and girls inside the Academy could help me put music to the poem. I then sent an email to Direk Lauren Dyogi, subliminally begging him to use the lyrics for the scholars' music composition exercises but I did not expect any reply from him because I know that the academy is swarmed with similar requests and I used a very "baduy" alias; I registered a new yahoo email and called myself "MrInLove". The moment I clicked the send button I realized that nobody could take that name seriously.

Then yesterday, I received this:

Hello Mr. In Love,

Direk Lauren asked us to get in touch with you regarding your email. Can you please call us at 415xxxx, or better yet, contact me directly in my cell phone 0915-426xxxx ASAP. We are hoping that we can put you on air this afternoon in UBERTURE.

Marc

I called Marc expecting a male voice to answer the phone, but to my surprise the pretty feminine voice that answered the phone was Marc. She informed me that I would be in the first gap (whatever that is) and Billy Crawford would interview me about the song and I have to make sure that my signal is OK.

Here's what happened:

I can hear Billy on the background reading my email to Direk Lauren. Then I was on the air.

Billy: ... so Arturo how are you?
Me: ... Hello, you can call me art
Billy: (laughs) Oh hello Art, this is Billy Crawford, you can call me Billy (laughs again)
Me: Hi Billy, this is supposed to be a surprise for my girlfriend but since I am now on TV...
Billy: (cuts in) you are not on TV I am on TV (laughs some more)
Me: (laughs) ah ok
Billy: So ang gagawin ipapasok yong lyrics mo sa academy then the two groups would put music into it and then ikaw mamimili kung alin mas gusto mo? Is that OK?
Me: (speechless)
Billy: Ayaw mo yata eh (laughs)
Me: Hey mas maganda, I love it.
Billy: Yep Mas ayos di ba? So thank you...
-end_

The moment I put down the phone, messages from friends and relatives started coming in. I never thought that they would give it a coverage, all I need is a melody :).

One problem solved. I am now confident that the song for Michelle would be perfect.

Goodbye iPhone, hello Diamond

17.06.2008 - Share on Ovi
"Sometimes a GOODBYE is painful to make the HELLO more joyful". The HTC Touch Diamond fits perfectly inside my leather card holder

HTC Diamond - one hand, one touch
the box looks great, what's inside is even greater

This is the second device that received much attention from the Technews crew next to i-Sobot and the only device that all of us would like to touch first just to get the honor of having the first thumb mark on the sharp 2.8-inch touch screen of this new gadget. Unlike the HTC Touch and HTC Touch Dual that remained in their boxes for several days, the HTC Diamond's box was immediately ripped off when it arrived in the office. Aside from the box, the HTC Diamond is elegantly packed inside a glossy black pyramid-like casing that received oohs and wows from the boys.

We all agreed that the HTC Diamond is oozing with sex appeal. Comments like "wow ganda", "uyy cute" and "putek ang sexy" were heard over and over again. It's a device that would awaken any man's lust for a gadget. It's like a viagra for someone like the Technews crew who are experiencing gadget fatigue and hitech indifference, a problem among us because of prolong exposure to hitech toys and new gadgets everday.

Although the Diamond is using Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, first time users would not even know it as it has been overlaid with a 3D touch interface called the TouchFLO 3D. "TouchFLO 3D provides a stunningly intuitive way to zip through common tasks like messaging, calendar appointments or making calls with just one touch." TouchFLO 3D also provides animated access to people, messaging, email, photos, music, weather and more. And because of the the slim design users could send SMS and access the Diamond using just one hand; the size and the weight is perfect for one hand operation.

The HTC Touch Diamond is a Triband GSM phone that supports GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA data speeds. It also features wifi, GPS and Bluetooth 2.0.

The HTC Touch Diamond uses Opera browser which makes the availability of the Pocket IE useless as Opera renders web pages perfectly.

The phone syncs to the PC via ActiveSync in Windows XP and Mobile Device Center in windows Vista. Users can sync contacts, calendar, tasks, favorites and more. The phone can also be used as a mass storage device when you enable the use of the device as a USB drive.

The HTC Touch Diamond is an impressive and powerful device and I recommend it for both the business and personal users.

Whoever said that you could not mix business with pleasure has not seen the HTC Touch Diamond.

Time to move on...

Thanks to my job, I got to change my phone as often as I want. I usually change my unit everytime there's an upcoming unit from phone manufacturers, be it Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and even made and China phones.

Only the iPhone among all the phones that I used took me about a year before I have decided to return it inside its box and put it on top of the shelf just above my monitor. From now on, it would be a permanent decoration of my office beside my Rubik's Cubes, Oregon Scientific Ferrari alam clock, iSobot, iBall, HiPhone and other tech toys that I bought here an abroad.

Just this morning, MB Management gave me a HTC Touch Diamond for my personal use. I was told that I could choose another two more units from a total of ten units (Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung) that arrived from our source abroad.

I love this job :).

Buy books, stay at home

My favorite bookstore recently launched its website. The website www.powerbooks.com.ph has everthing I would ever want when it comes to books. There's a store locator that could help users find the nearest Powerbooks outlet; customer reviews of books that are available; author of the month, book of the month, Filipino author of the month feature that could help users pick their next book; and a lot more.

The website also accepts online orders. Just select the books you want by clicking on the shopping cart icon, key in shipping information and pay for your purchases via a credit card. The website said that delivery of the purchase would take one week.

The creations of Avel Bacudio.

Skimpy outfits, skinny models and beautiful faces are the reasons why I usually switch to Fashion TV when HBO, Cinemax and Star TV have nothing good to offer. But today is different. I'm here at the Shangri-la to see Avel Bacudio's masterpieces.

It all started when I called Angie Limbaco and asked her to assist Michelle to accessorize her wedding gown as it turned out to be a total disappointment. Michelle told me that she would look like a Manang wearing that gown designed by someone whose one of the selling point is that she designed the gowns of the ABS-CBN stars (I still have to verify if this this true). Angie with a smile on her face dragged me here at the Lobby of the Shangri-la to witness the Fashion Watch. I feel like a fish out of the water. Good thing Annie, Alexie and Nikka are here. I also see familiar faces and faces that I only see at www.chikatime.com. Now I know that Chikatime is not exaggerating :)

The great shift: from printers to printing

First it was Epson who declared that they are not only a printer company but also systems integrator and solutions company, then last month HP said that it would continue to drive innovation across its core printing business by providing useful solutions beyond the device, and now here comes Samsung who said that aside from introducing new range of printing devices, they would also introduce solutions to help businesses increase their efficiency.

While all of these companys' solutions focus on the SMB and Enterprise clients, it was only HP who introduced the benefits of this change to the individual consumers.

Aside from introducing new printers last month, HP has also provided tools for the consumers that would make printing easier and more productive. Templates and tools are available including logos, photos and software at hp.com. There is also a cost estimator that allows users to know the cost if a material is printed in-house or thru print service provider.

In the recent GO Busines Print 2.0 event in Shanghai, China, HP also highlighted, the Smart Web Printing software. HP said that With almost half of the printing content in the home coming from the web, fixing the current horrible printing experience from the web (cut off pages, extra pages with just one line of text, etc.) has been a high priority for them. The software would be included with almost all of new HP products and is also available free for download.

With this development we can clearly see why HP is on the lead.
